iSWM™ Design Manual for Site Development InformationAt its January 26, 2006 meeting, NCTCOG’s Executive Board released the iSWM™ Design Manual for Site Development to participating local governments. NCTCOG’s Public Works Council and Executive Board approved the integrated Storm Water Management™ project in the FY2002 Regional Public Works Program. The work has been done on a fee-for-service basis involving financial contributions by more than 60 cities. It has been undertaken by a consultant team headed by Freese & Nichols, and guided by a task force of local government and private industry representatives. Two drafts of a comprehensive manual were produced and underwent extensive public comment. The result of these efforts is the January 2006 Edition of the iSWM™ Design Manual for Site Development. The manual is a step-by-step detailed instructional document to guide developers and government agencies on the control and management of storm water quality and quantity. It is a practical manual oriented to implementation in everyday practice. It calls for the consideration of storm water issues at the conceptual stages of projects and provides tools to achieve the goals of water quality protection, streambank protection, and flood control. Its adoption in the region will simplify engineering designs, minimize local government plan review efforts, facilitate multi-jurisdictional drainage analysis, and enable regional training opportunities.
